More info on that high speed chase on the 29th.

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I first want to say that Mary Jedlicka from channel 6 news in Columbus (the woman who interviewed me) is extremely nice and thoughtful.  Both her and the cameraman were very pleasant.  Mary actually took the time to call me twice after the interview to update me on the situation.  To me, that is going beyond what she was required to do and I really appreciated that.

Anyway, it turns out the guy that nearly ran me down at the BP and was involved in that high speed chase had stolen some people’s bank slips.  He was going around to the banks and stealing money out of their accounts until the police caught up with him.

People are so selfish and lazy.  It sure doesn’t say much about you if you will go and steal money from someone who probably worked very hard for that money.  Especially in these hard times.  How could you do that?  Someone might have been counting on that money to buy food for their children.  Or to put gas in their car to get to work.  Or to buy their medication for a life threatening illness.  You never know.

Nearly killed in a high speed chase today!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Like the title says, I was nearly killed in a high speed chase today!!  I was standing at the BP gas station filling my grandma’s minivan when I heard sirens.  I looked up to see a silver car speeding toward the gas station.  He turned so hard that he drifted (slid) sideways into the gas station entrance and straight towards my pump.  He missed the pump and the back of the van by mere inches as I scrambled to get out of the way.  My first thought was “please done’t hit this pump and blow me up!”  He swerved the car just enough to fly right along side the van and straight out the other station entrance and onto the road.  Never looking at anyone around and not even me as he nearly smashed into me.  4 or 5 police cars followed immediately after right past myself and the van.  They chased him into the nearby Kmart parking lot and through the nearby connecting Kroger parking lot full of people.  All the while police were coming from all directions.  The guy pulled back out onto the road and back towards the BP.  He flew right by again except not through the station this time.  He weaved in and out of traffic like a crazy person.  The cops chased him down the road until I couldn’t see or hear anymore.

I stood there shaking and nearly crying for probably 10 minutes before I could actually gain enough composure to do anything.  Of course, then I had to call my family and tell them about it.  I was dying to know what the heck was going on so I called two news stations to see if they knew anything.  None of them had any information yet except that it started in one county and lead to ours.

Channel 6 news ended up asking to interview me.  So I just had an interview at the BP and should be on the news tonight.  By the time they got there, they told me that the chase ended with the guy crashing into some ladies front yard.  Still no idea why he was running.  Hopefully there will be more on the news tonight.  The woman who interviewed me said she would call me if she found out what happened.  This is in Ohio by the way (Columbus news).  I will try to get a copy of the news clip and post it here.

This just amazes me.  No one stops to think about anyone else.  So many bad things could have come from that.  I was just thinking to myself… what if I had been on my motorcycle backing out of one of the parking spaces there?  He flew in so fast he would have hit and probably killed me.  Or what if his car slid just a bit further and he smashed into the pump?  Then he could have caused an explosion.  Or how about how he drove straight out into the road without stopping for traffic?  He could have caused a wreck.  Or he could have killed someone walking in the grocery store parking lots.  What a loser.  I hope he gets harsh punishment for what he did.

***UPDATE***

I haven’t been able to get a copy of the video myself yet, but here is a link to it and the article on the news website…

Should I start a campground?

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I am sort of at a crossroads in my life.  I am not 100% sure which road to take yet.  I am looking to make some life changes and have narrowed it down to two things my husband and I would love to do with our lives.

The first idea is to start our own campground.  My family and I have talked about it and toyed with the idea for several years now and we all agree it would be a great way of life.  Buy a large piece of land and have lots of outdoor activities.  This would be great for me because I would be ensuring the survival of trees and nature on my land as well as offering things like horse back riding trails.

The second idea is to flip (rehab) run down homes.  I love turning something ugly into something beautiful.  Improving neighborhoods and creating lovely homes for people who need them.  That would make me happy as well.

We can’t afford to do both and frankly, both are hard jobs so I wouldn’t want to.  There is more money in house flipping, but I think I might be more “at home” running  a campground.  It’s so hard to choose.
