Violence in children's cartoons.
I want to know why we, as a society, allow people to create and air cartoons with violence or disrespectful behavior? And why do so many parents allow their children to watch them??
You know, I was raised on Looney Tunes and Buggs Bunny. Even those really should have been inappropriate for children now that I think about it. Ever notice that the old Looney Tunes showed Buggs, Daffy, and Elmer smoking pipes and cigars? They promoted smoking to children and I don't think anyone ever even noticed. Elmer always went around trying to shoot Buggs and Daffy who were humanized characters. Or how about Tom and Jerry or Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner? Always blowing each other up and finding ways to kill each other? I mean, those were and still are my favorites, but I don't know that I would let my children watch them.
This applies to nearly all cartoons anymore. Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider Man, etc. They all involve characters fighting and killing each other.
Some of them encourage children to be rude with smart-alek (sp?) attitudes. And people wonder why their children are so badly behaved. I am sure those things aren't helping.
It also annoys me that parents would let their children watch something like Teletubbies. Just for the simple fact that it teaches your children to baby talk all the time. I mean, those things are so annoying. Let's just let our child watch something that is going to potentially cause them to have obnoxious habits. No offense to those who think it's ok, but I personally can't stand that show.
Parents should be having their children watch shows where they learn positive things like learning about manners or being creative or something like that. Or better yet, get your children away from the TV! Do something productive with them.
