Space radiation causing cancer??
I haven't really heard anything about this before and just happened to think of it while watching a documentary about people living in space. Apparantly the problem with living in space is that there is radiation everywhere. Just flying around until it comes in contact with something of mass. They were saying that in space, there is nothing to stop this radiation from contacting with your body. Everyone knows radiation is bad and causes cancer in uncontrolled situations.
Then they went on to say that on earth, we are protected from the space radiation by the ozone layer. The ozone layer is almost like a shield. They even had a nice cgi demonstration to give a clearer picture.
This immediately made me think... with the depleting ozone layer... is it possible that more and more radiation is getting through? Could this be part of the reason why we are seeing such an increase in cancer victims? I wonder.
