It seems that there is this mentallity that if you abondon an animal somewhere that either it will be able to fend for itself or that someone else will find it and take care of it. YOU CANNOT RELY ON THAT and most times, you will be dead wrong!
I have seen so many cases where people lose their job, they get evicted from their home, and so they abandon their pets in the home. They assume that someone will come along and take care of the animals. It usually doesn't work that way. It can take entirely too long for someone to show up and realize that there is a pet inside that is in need. Animals cannot survive that long without food an water. So in most cases, they starve to death or are found in terrible ill conditions. Animals that have been domesticated are not adapt at fending for themselves in the wild. They do not know what to do if it gets really cold. They are not trained and experienced in hunting for food or seeking out water. So when you dump a pet off somewhere outside, it will most likely die, become ill, or get injured. It's really not necessary for you to just leave an animal somewhere. There are animal shelters all over the world. Take it to a shelter!! Or tell someone about your situation and ask for help. Even if you don't have any money, you can always find someone to help! So do NOT abandon an animal anywhere for any reason!!

I want to add one of my experiences to this post.
We bought a home this past April. We knew a dog must have been left unattended in the home because there were claw marks all over the doors and walls. HUD had removed the carpet prior to sale. The subfloors were soaked with urine. After we moved in, we learned from the neighbors that the previous owner's wife had left him. After that, he lost his job and stopped taking care of the house. He eventually was foreclosed on. He had two dogs. One dog had been his wife's but she left it with him. When he left the house, he abandoned her dog in the house. It was locked inside and could not get out. By the time the neighbors noticed that there was still a dog inside, it was so malnurished and sick that it died soon after rescue. This is why you do not abandon animals!
