Default Government Student Loans

I would like to know what, if anything, the government is going to do about the cost of student loans? They are so expensive that anyone trying to obtain an education is basicly signing up to be in debt for a large chunk of their life. It shouldn't be that way. Education is the backbone of a successful society. We need to make it easier to obtain.

Not only are government student loans expensive, you are lucky if you can qualify for them. There are so many stupid requirements and a lot of people fall just out of arms reach of getting approved.

I personally experienced college telling me that because of my age, my parents had to be considered in the financial status, even though I had not lived with them for many years. They would not even consider me until my parents financial information was on there. And then once I added them, I was told they made too much money so I couldn't get financial aid. It didn't matter that I didn't live with them, that I had my own job, and that both myself and my parents did not have enough money to pay for tuition. It was the dumbest and most irritating thing I ever heard of. I had to wait many years before I was no longer in that loophole of theirs and was able to get financial aid.
