I know this section is for health insurance, but this is about car insurance covering medical expenses... so... similar.
I was recently in a car accident. A guy ran a red light a t-boned me in my driver's side of my brand new 2009 Camry. He hit me so hard he totaled the car. I had to go to the emergency room and many many months of physical therapy and doctor's visits. I was perfectly healthy before and had never had any of the problems the accident left me with. My lawyer presented a settlement offer to the other guy's insurance (Progressive) to cover the medical expenses, vehicle expenses, lost wages, and typical pain and suffering. Progressive, being the assholes that they are, are now trying to say that 2/3 of my medical bills are unrelated to the accident. WTF?! Where in the world would they get that idea?! Clearly they are just stalling and trying to call my bluff (although I am not bluffing). Why can't these insurance companies just do their jobs as they agree to and take care of people when their client smashes into them? They always have to try to weasel their way out of it and not hold up to their agreements. They took their clients money to financially provide for someone if their client causes an accident. So just do it. Stop trying to avoid it and cheat people out of what they deserve. Why the hell are we FORCED to keep car insurance when the stupid crap doesn't even really want to be there for you? They are just lucky I am not one of their customers because they would have lost my business for sure. The sad thing is, I wouldn't be suprised if my insurance company behaved this way as well. It's all a scam to take people's money and not give back. On top of all that, my lawyer tells me now (after I already signed a contract with him), that he is backed up two years and cannot sue Progressive until around 12/2010. Are you kidding me?! And even worse, he says it will probably be another year before I even get a court date. What a load of crap!!! This whole insurance/lawyer/court nonsense is all a bunch of garbage. It's no wonder people are suffering, going bankrupt, and dying. The insurance companies aren't there when you need them. The lawyers aren't there when you need them. And I am sure there will be some other nonsense that pops up along the way to piss me off. Well if they think I will just go away or settle for some lesser amount, they have got another thing coming. I have heard from several other people that they have been through the same thing. One guy has been battling the insurance company for 10 years with all of the delays and court continuances. This is ridiculous. It's a good thing I have my own health insurance and car insurance to help pick up some of these medical bills or I would go into debt and ruin my credit. I will at least have a smaller balance I can manage payments on. But I tell you, if I didn't have my medical coverage with my insurance companies, I really would be screwed. I would have to pay the bills myself. And let me tell you, they are really up there!
