It's ok to be different! The WORLD needs to accept that everyone is different. How are societies, cultures, sexes, etc different, why must some be opressive/violent, and why can't we get along?

Question Amrican Girl doll company portraying reality.

I just recently heard about this on television the other day. I had never knew anything of this company at all.

The American Girl doll company creates dolls that come with their own unique stories. The most impressive and controvesial seems to be "Gwen" the homeless doll. Her story tell of her father leaving her and her mother and the two of them living in a car.

American Girl has been under fire because of it's release of this doll. Many people feel that they should not produce something like that for children to play with. Personally, I think it's refreshing to see something useful and realistic for children to play with. It's a huge change from the Barbi I grew up with that taught children to be materialistic and egotistical. And it's certainly more worth while and educational then a lot of the other nonsense dolls out there.

I believe awareness need to be raised about the homeless crisis. For far too long people have turned a blind eye and a cold shoulder to those in need. It's a good idea to start teaching children at young ages about the world, how to avoid making the same mistakes, and how to help those who have.

Critics are also commenting on the irony of the $95 price tag on a homeless doll. I do not know a lot about American Girl, but have read that they make donations to organizations such as Planned Parenthood. I am all for supporting organizations like that. And if a good portion of that money goes to places like that, then I see no problem with the high price.

I did hear that they have all their dolls made in China though and I do not agree with that. To call your company American Girl and your product Americal Doll... and then to mass produce in China... well... it's just ridiculous. No offense to China, but with our economy the way it is... a company using the American name should be giving it's jobs to Americans.
