Stop lights at highway on ramps are stupid!
There is something that just doesn't make sense to me. I have started to see stop lights popping up at various highway on ramps. So if you are about to get onto a major highway from a side street, just before you merge onto the highway, you have to make a complete stop. You make this stop and then you have to merge immediately with traffic doing 65 to 80 miles per hour. That makes no sense what so ever. Does that make sense to anyone else? I figure they are thinking it will make people stop and look more before merging, but really I think it's far more dangerous. People might see a car off in the distance and think they have enough time to make the merge, not speed up fast enough, and cause an accident. It's up to the person merging to match the speed of traffic. How are people supposed to do that if they don't have a fast car or a lead foot? I personally make it ok, but what about other people who aren't as aggressive? What do they do when traffic is heavy and you can't wait for good sized gap of space? I think these stop lights at highway ramps are dangerous and a waste of tax payer money.
