Default Clinical drug trials in humans should be done for longer periods.

I just read an interesting article at Health Life and Stuff that I highly agree with. They discuss the fact the the FDA does not require long enough testing/trial periods on human subjects for prescription drug testing. They also go over the other reasons why prescription medication clinical trials fail to discover potential threats and side effects until it's too late.

The biggest issue with prescription medication lately is that we are constantly seeing confirmation of deadly and life altering side effects that do not show up until many years of use. You can't hardly watch television for an hour without seeing a law firm's commercial about "if you have taken the drug xxx, and experienced xxx, then you may be entitled to compensation".

Clearly, we are nothing more then guinea pig testing animals for prescription drug makers. I realize the tests need to be performed on someone. But it doesn't take a genious to realize that you shouldn't be approving the use of medications to the entire world when you don't know the long term side effects. It's no wonder we all have mental problems, cancer, diabetes, etc. We will take whatever is given to use because we are too trusting.

The FDA needs to make clinical testing of prescription medication much longer. Several years at least. And if you want to allow the general public to take it prior to that lengthy testing, then only make it available with a warning that it has NOT been thoroughly tested and you are taking it at your own risk. I feel that the way the FDA presents drugs as safe is giving the public a false sense of trust and security.
