Default Differences of treatment of animals through varied cultures.

In some countries, cows are sacred, rats are sacred, and so on. Those animals live freely amongst people and are not to be harmed. Here in America, many people believe dogs and cats are to be treated as family members... respected, protected, and loved.

What is it in our nature that picks out just one or two species and the rest are all obsolete? A person who cherishes dogs, might turn around and say cats are worthless scavengers. I don't understand this selective thinking. What makes any one animal more important then another?

I know, it's not practical to let animals roam freely amongst us. But who are we to do the things we do to them? For example, the cows, chickens, pigs, and turkey that we raise for food purposes... locked in small cages and stalls, unable to live as nature intended. Those conditions have to be mental and physical torture.

So why can't we find a better way for the entire planet to live with animals? Some farms let their cows live freely out in open pastures where they can at least enjoy some of their life as nature intended. Why can't we let these animals live without suffering until they are needed? Then painlessly and humanely euthenize them for food?

Religion and culture effect things greatly all over the world. The variance of beliefs and ways animals are treated is fascinating to me. Everyone thinks that their way is the only way. But just the simple fact that each culture behaves differently in regards to animals shows that no one way has to be the only way. I hope that some day, we become a more considerate species.

I like to eat meat, I suggest we all evolve into chaos magicians and custom creat our belief systems.

I don't think there is any problem worshipping or admiring animals as gods.

Many cultures do.

I don't think it is bad to sacrifice an animal to the self or a god either, since we kill them anyway for food.

Thanks Darwin for being a smart guy.

I still recommend being vegetarian. It is healthier :P
