Hi Betty:
I am Caroline...I love Colorado and have driven through it often..This is on the way to Las Vegas when you do not have wings and fly...That is me...They weren't there when I was born, so I just don't fly......Nice knowing you.....C

I don't fly either. I would rather take the bus and see the country. I loved Colorado and still miss the mountains. I plan on going back in Sept. when I get my vacation. I can make my home any where I am. It doesn't matter to me as long as I can talk to and see my family every so often. I still have a sister in Ky. The rest of my family has passd away.

You sound like such a strong person... I wish I was like you are...
About 15 years ago we decided to take the Amtrak from Chicago to Las Vegas...I don't know why but I get these crazy ideas and once I have put my foot in my mouth, we follow through..This was a wild one..What took so much planning and was such a question in my mind became one of the most wonderful experience's in my life..I reserved a room with both bath and shower...This was costly but nothing like today..We boarded around 2 in the afternoon and got to Las Vegas the morning of the third day...So often I think of this wonderful trip and my discovery of Colorado and my beautiful country....We were eating in Nebraska in the dining room when I first saw the mountains in the distance...I was in awe...They were so majestic sticking up high into the clouds...I had seen mountains before but this was a sight that I will never forget...Snow covered and beautiful... Each part of that trip is a wonderful memory...The Colorado River trickling in the mountain streams, and the Guide who we picked up at Denver who rode with us until some mountain destination explaining what each wonderful site we were seeing was...I never knew that they blocked the mountain with boxcars so that the trains would not be thrown off the track during the Winter storms. Nor did I know that you could see the Continental Divide from high in the mountains and plainly see the dividing line when you looked down at it.. I had no idea of that long train tunnel that was built and how long it took and how hard this one and the people that had died....Come to think about it, I never knew much about life at all......This trip I learned....both more about me and more about our past and who we all are... As costly as this trip was, this was the last year we could have made it...The next year the train would not go to Las Vegas again...Never go that route on an Amtrak again...Not enough profit...So I would never see Grand Junction, Colorado as they emptied our trash or loaded our food for the diners again....These memories of your home State are so important to me...As I sit here my mind races with the thoughts of all the things we saw and will never see again...... I think as you age, old memories become more precious and recollecting them and living them again becomes one of the rewards of life.... Hey girl, thanks for helping me relive these memories.... Caroline

Just wanted to say thanks for the compliment. I grew up in the 30's and had to make do with what we had. I often wonder how my Mother and Daddy raised 5 children on what little we had. Of course there was lots of love and we never went hungry. I feel very blessed being raised on a farm. I learned at a early age to work hard and not goof off. It has sustained me all these 76 years.
