Default First time home buyer tax break 2010

I am curious to see what will happen with this tax rebate for first time home buyers in 2010. I keep hearing "it will only be for this year". But part of me wonders if there will be a new rebate offered in 2010? Do you think they will flat out end it? I don't think so. If they have seen any benefit from it, I believe they will run it through next year as well. Our economy is still struggling so bad, I can't see how they would stop it. Unless, of course, they run out of money to fund it. I am curious to see if the amount will change.

My husband and I are expecting our first baby. We are in an apartment now, saving money to move to a house. We want to take advantage of the first time home buyer tax rebate, but I don't think we will be ready to move until 2010. It bothers me that they sort of sprung it on us and said "you only have 2009 to use it". That isn't enough time for people to prepare. I really hope they continue the first time buyer program into 2010 or at least start a new one. Ooooh... with more money!

I kind of expect there to be more incentives for first time homebuyers in 2010. If this program was successful, and it looks like it was, then they will probably have more. I think the only reason they put a time limit on it was because they were not sure if it would help boost the economy or not. If they see in the end that it was very helpful, they probably will continue it or have something useful for us.

So has anyone used this first time homebuyer tax thing? How helpful was it and was it easy to obtain?

I will be really annoyed if I use this tax rebate/downpayment assistance this year and they increase it or make it better next year!
