Default Increase in Columbus city taxes.

Today we all voted on an increase in Columbus, Ohio city taxes. This tax increase supposedly would prevent a lot of important public service workers from losing their jobs. One point my husband made though... what about the rest of the world who has been getting laid off? There aren't any taxes to help them.

On one hand, I do agree with that. But on the other hand, these are jobs that are required to insure the safety and smooth functioning of our city (police, fireman, etc).

The tax is also to help keep other city programs running that essentially make Columbus a great city.

I am a firm believer that without the taxes, our cities (anywhere) would turn to crap holes. Crime would run even more rampant then it is. The overall appearance would decline. This is how cities develop "ghettos". They are under funded, under educated, and no one is there to look after it or keep things in order.

It's hard being sure when a tax is REALLY needed or when someone just is being greedy though.
