Post Airline Travels and Terrorism

Ever since the 9/11 experience the US has done its part to make us feel more secure when flying. At the same rate, they have also started to cross the line a bit. Random security inspections... wether its every 6th person, or whatever process they have. It seems that they often pull whom they want, and while i understand the need to security and rules.. it seems like they are starting to take it a bit over board.

A few years ago I was pulled for a "security" search where they search my luggage and me. The laptop I was borrowing was testing positive for some sorta chemical. I bet its because i had my lotions in my carryon neat the laptop. Either way all they did was scan it.

NOW according to this article it seems they are seizing laptops, pdas, blackberrys, and cells. In fear of child porn, terrorist attack plans, and anything else they can find.
Its argued by the airport "we have a right to look through electronic devices as we would a breifcase" - fair enough... but do you SCAN and COPY all the papers and documents in the briefcase? NO! But yet they feel its fair to make copies of the digital information... there goes anything personal. Now companies can't have thier corp people travel with electronic information in fear of someone getting it!
SHEESH!

Really??? They are copying the data off of people's equipment now? I haven't flown in so long that I had no idea. That is ridiculous. What if you had personally identifiable info on there like your social security number or something and it got into the wrong hands at the airport? I don't trust those airport staff in the first place. They are just people like anyone else. You never know when you might come across a "bad apple".

I can't agree more! I mean its not like every laptop and pda that comes through. PLUS i think they are more "sensitive" with the said security like this for international travel ... but even then. I can't believe that they would do that! I would be so pissed! No matter what kinda person is hired into a job.. people are just people! There are bad apples in every bunch!

Its not so bad, put yourself in the shoes of authority for a moment.

Do you want crazy people on your airliners?

I think that many of the intrusions of privacy are due to the Bush administration. They can listen in on any phone conversation and they almost have a cart blanche when it comes to intruding our privacy.
