Default Pit bull attacks neighbor's dog.

I watched a court case on tv today about a pit bull that attacked a neighbor's dog and ripped his eye out, blinding him permanently. It was amazing to me to hear the pit bull owners excuses.

The victim's owner had installed a fence that had been there for many years to keep their dog in. The fence was in good condition before the neighbor with the pit bull moved into the rental property next door. The pit bull continuously tore up the neighbor's fence causing them to repeatedly repair their own fence. The owner of the pit bull never offered to repair the fence. Despite the destructive behavior of the pit bull, it's owners did nothing to control the dog or keep him from the fence.

One day, the pit bull broke through the fence and this is when the much smaller dog was attacked. It was stopped before the small dog was killed.

The owner of the pit bull never once tried to make amends or pay for the vet bills incured by the neighbor. So the victim's owners took them to court.

The owner of the pit bull claimed that this incident was the neighbors fault for not ensuring that THEIR fence was in good condition. That it was their fault that their fence broke.

The judge made her look like a fool. How could she say it was the neighbors fault because the fence broke down? Expectedly, the judge (mocking her) explained that it was her fault for not restraining the pit bull or for not installing her own fence. He then reminded the pit bill owner that her dog destroyed the neighbor's property which was yet another offense. Owner of pit said "well I am renting my house so I can't put up a fence and they don't double fence in Ohio". How ignorant. And that is pretty much what the judge said.

As a dog owner, it is YOUR responsibillity no matter what to restrain and control your dog. Needless incidents like this are part of the reason why dogs get banned and vicious breed laws are created.
